As part of the Great Britain China Centre Future Leaders Programme, Matthew Erie presented research on "Chinese Law & Development: Implications for UK Rule of Law Assistance." This was part of a two-day residential conference for political, government and industry representatives held at the Oxford University China Centre and involving knowledge deep-dives, policy formulation activities and networking opportunities.

The Great Britain China Centre is an executive public body of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and was established to support UK-China relations. The Future Leaders Programme is their flagship capabilities initiative and aims to improve understanding of how the Chinese system functions by growing a network of Chinese-literate leaders able to coordinate and implement policy that serves the UK’s long-term interests. The programme connects parliamentarians, civil servants and business representatives to enhance their capability to work with China across the full breadth of policy issues. It combines knowledge building workshops, delivered in partnership with Oxford University China Centre, with bespoke engagement initiatives in China.
