Professor Matthew Erie engaged with a group of Japanese law students, legal anthropologists, and comparativists on the topic of “New Legal Hubs.” One focus of the seminar was on the challenges Tokyo faces as a center for international commercial dispute resolution in the hyper-competitive environment of such service provision in East Asia. Participants discussed legal, institutional, linguistic, and cultural factors that have shaped international commercial arbitration in Japan.
