Around 2020, the Chinese Government began advocating for the building of a "foreign-related 'rule of law.'" This reform has potentially important and far-reaching implications for China's cross-border trade and investment as well as China's participation in the international legal system, more generally. However, such law remains embryonic as a reform initiative and is clearly not understood by all stakeholders, including industry, legal services providers, officials, and academia.
